Caribbean Premier League: Sunil Narine becomes first recipient of slow-overs red card

August 28
Trinbago Knight Riders got a red card in a cricket match. Sunil Narine got the penalty because his team was playing too slowly in the game. This happened in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
CPL organizers made some new rules to address the issue of slow-over rates this season. One of the rules is that if a fielding team is taking too long in the final over of an innings, they can receive a red card.
A sanction means that a team has to remove one player chosen by the captain and have six fielders in a specific area.
The problem of slow over-rates has been a big issue in the game. Matches often go over their scheduled time. The ICC has made a new rule where they will give penalties to international cricket teams if they are late in both Test matches and shorter formats. They will also take away points from teams participating in the World Test Championship.
The Knight Riders had only 10 players in the final over of their match against the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots. However, they still won the match by six wickets. This was their first victory in three matches.
Narine finished bowling his allotted four overs and took three wickets but did not bowl the final over. The final over ended up giving the Patriots 18 runs.
Nicholas Pooran scored 61 runs in 32 balls to help the Knight Riders win the match. Kieron Pollard and Andre Russell also contributed with 37 and 23 runs respectively. They finished the match with 17 balls still left to spare at Warner Park in Basseterre.
Pollard was not happy with the penalty for taking too long in the game.
“He said that honestly, it will remove the effort that everyone has put in. ” We are like pieces on a chessboard and we will do what we are asked to do.
We will play very quickly. If you get punished for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is completely silly.
