Dhaka Premier League to return to traditional 50-over format tournament.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Wednesday that the impending version of Dhaka Premier League, the conventional Dhaka-club based 50-over competition, will get back to its old configuration.

The 2019-20 season’s DPL was deferred on March 19 last year after only one finished round of matches in consistence with measures taken to battle the COVID-19 flare-up in the country. BCB chose to scrap the release and yet again dispatch it in T20 design so as to get ready for the forthcoming T20 World Cup, planned for the UAE and Oman from October.

”Surely (DPL will be played in 50-over design). Last year what happened is that we had next to no time and in a day we played three to four games which isn’t common. DPL is our fundamental List A competition and there is custom associated with it, so normally the following version of DPL will be played in 50-over design,” Kazi Inam Ahmed, executive of Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis, a BCB wing depended with the obligation of finishing the competition, told journalists on Wednesday, following a gathering of CCDM at BCB head quarter in Dhaka.

”We are pondering orchestrating DPL in March-April one year from now,” he added.

Inam said that they are looking at to begin the lower level Dhaka-club based competitions from November-December as there was no first second and third division cricket in the country since the episode of Covid, however BCB facilitated several homegrown competitions.

”The main division, second division, and the third division associations (that was deferred following the crown flare-up) are significant for us. We have conversed with every one of the facilitators as we need to begin those associations from November-December, this year,” said Inam. ”We’ve chosen to call every one of the clubs (lower level) in the coming week to fix the dates of particular contest.

”Look there is no lockdown and everything is beginning to open up like school and universities yet at the same time there is a wellbeing convention rule of the public authority. In the lower level associations we will perceive what sort of wellbeing convention and in case there is any guidance by the public authority in such manner,” he added.
