Duleep Trophy: South ride Vidwath’s 4-for to wrest control

Bengaluru, July 13 – The pacers from South Zone were excellent in limiting West Zone to 129/7 and helping their team catch up in the Duleep Trophy final today. West team still trail South team by 84 runs. Before, the team from South scored 213 runs in their first turn to bat. Later, Prithvi Shaw and Harvik Desai helped the team from the West to reach a score of 97/1, and they were ready for a big win. The weather was also a bit sunny at that time. Shaw played really well during this period. The 23-year-old player stopped the South’s fast bowlers in his unique way, hitting many impressive shots. It was obvious that the South’s bowlers would need to do something extraordinary to end the partnership between the two batsmen. Maybe, the rain break that lasted for 65 minutes during the second session allowed South to pause and rethink their strategies. After the break, their bowlers came back to the field with a noticeable change in their approach. Vyshak Vijaykumar attacked Shaw and Harvik with fast balls from a different angle. Vidwath was helped by this strategy and decided to bowl the ball closer to the batsman. Vidwath took the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav (8), Sarfaraz Khan (0), and Cheteshwar Pujara (9) at the end. The South Zone team scored 213 runs in 78 overs. Vihari scored 63 runs and Mulani took 3 wickets for 29 runs, while Gaja took 2 wickets for 27 runs. West Zone scored 129 runs for 7 wickets in 45 overs. Shaw scored 65 runs and Kaverappa took 4 wickets for 44 runs, while Vyshak took 2 wickets for 29 runs.
