Parl panel head Sushil advocates keeping tribals out of UCC ambit

On Monday, Sushil Modi, Chairman of the parliamentary committee on law and BJP MP, suggested that tribals, particularly those in the Northeast, should be excluded from any potential Uniform Civil Code. Opposition members, such as those from the Congress and the DMK, linked the push for the UCC to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. At the meeting, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut questioned the timing of the consultations while Congress MP Vivek Tankha and DMK MP P Wilson submitted separate written statements, arguing that there was no need to have new consultations on the issue.
