Punjab and Haryana High Court stays August 12 Wrestling Federation of India polls until further orders
Chandigarh, on August 11th.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court stopped the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections that were supposed to happen on August 12 until they say otherwise.
The Haryana Wrestling Association (HWA) requested a court order because they disagreed with a decision to let the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association vote in the polls.
Advocate Ravinder Malik, who is representing Haryana Wrestling Association, which is led by MP Deepinder Hooda, said that the association is a registered group in the state of Haryana and is connected to the WFI.
He said that according to the rules and constitution of the WFI, any registered affiliated organization can send two representatives to vote in the polls.
He said that another group, the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association, has said it is connected to the WFI and the Haryana Olympic Association.
The Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association said that the HWA cannot be part of the election because they are not connected to the WFI.
“The person in charge of overseeing the election has said that they support the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association because they meet the requirements of being affiliated with both the WFI and Haryana Olympic Association,” explained the lawyer.
“We have protested against the returning officer’s decision in the high court. We argue that the Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association is associated with the Wrestling Federation of India but not with the Haryana Olympic Association. This means they should not be allowed to take part in the voting process,” said Malik.
He said that if they are allowed to participate in the election, it would be unfair and the election would be illegal.
The court noticed this and said that, at first glance, it appears that they are not allowed to vote, so as not to harm anyone.
The judge named Vinod S Bhardwaj stopped the elections that were supposed to happen on Saturday until they receive more instructions.
