Swiatek begins defence with easy win

On August 28th in New York.
World No 1 means the top or best in the world. Iga Swiatek had a strong start to her US Open title defence today. She easily defeated unseeded player Rebecca Peterson, winning 6-0 6-1. This match took place on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The player who has won four major tennis tournaments hit 20 good shots and served four fast aces to arrange a match in the next round against an Australian player named Daria Saville.
Swiatek said she was tired after losing in the Montreal and Cincinnati semifinals, but she played with a lot of energy in her first US Open match.
The Polish player only had a few moments of weakness at the start of the second set. She made more mistakes and had to fight hard to recover from almost losing the first game.
But she reminded everyone at Flushing Meadows why she has been the best tennis player in the world since April 2022 by hitting a backhand shot that Peterson couldn’t return, and she won the fourth game easily. Reuters is a news agency.
